On deinstitutionalization: In Conversation with Robinah Alambuya

Robinah Alambuya, an advocate for people with psychosocial disabilities, shares her personal experiences as a woman living with a psychosocial disability in Uganda. She discusses the challenges faced within institutional settings, the impact of limited support, and the importance of community and family networks. Alambuya highlights various forms of confinement, including psychiatric institutions, family restrictions, and traditional or religious confinement practices, and advocates for deinstitutionalization and Disability Justice. She recounts how she escaped the institution and has created alternative forms of care within the community and her family. The interview is conducted by DSROI faculty Nelly Bassily.
